Where does the ground beneath your feet come from? This summer, we're finding out, together.
Believe it or not, the rolling hills and wooded trails of Nashville were once covered by a warm, shallow ocean teeming with vibrant marine life. Coral, sea creatures, and ancient organisms left their marks right here in Middle Tennessee and we're going to find them (well, we'll try!).
Join us at the beautiful Shelby Bottoms Greenway for a one-of-a-kind program that blends the science of our earth with the joy of creating art inspired by it. We'll lace up our boots, wander winding woodland trails, and wade through shallow creeks in search of fossils left behind by Tennessee's ancient ocean world. As we uncover these hidden treasures, we'll let our imaginations run wild piecing together what this land may have looked like millions of years ago, when Nashville was a living, breathing seafloor.
We'll explore the big questions! How were these fossils formed? What creatures once swam where we now stand? What does the geology of Tennessee tell us about the story of our earth? — and bring those discoveries to life through art inspired by the ancient landscapes of this incredible state.
This is a program born from pure passion, launching its very first season this summer, and we couldn't be more excited to share it with you. Whether your child is a budding scientist, a nature lover, or a creative spirit, they'll leave with muddy boots, a fossil find, a piece of art they made, and a brand-new sense of wonder for the ancient world beneath their feet.
